Preventative Health Clinic

Good health is not just the absence of pain or disease.  According to traditional Chinese philosopy, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating, vital energy moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels or meridians, or neural pathways, beneath the skin.  This energy is known as ‘qi’.

The flow of qi can be disturbed by any number of factors.  These include emotional states such as anxiety, anger or grief, as well as poor nutrition, hereditary factors, infections, allergies, addictions and trauma.  When the qi is unbalanced, illness may often result.

The Well Body Clinics & Preventative Health

Preventative health is the best way for us to support ourselves – purely because we take action before we get sick.  By strengthening each of our core organ systems – and by addressing any weaknesses, or deficiencies ahead of time, we bolster our body’s immune function, and lessen the likelihood of our system failing us, or of our becoming ill or unwell. This integrated approach to balancing the body’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health lies at the heart of taking responsibility for ourselves.  In today’s fast-paced modern world, it is so easy to take our health for granted.  It is only when we reach a crisis point or challenging situation, that we realise we might have done more to help ourselves sooner.  ‘I wished that I had’ or ‘If only I had..’ is a phrase expressed so often, especially when we realise little and often might have avoided a health concern that would also, in its early stages of onset, have been much simpler, swifter and easier to treat.

Preventative health consultations aim to help you optimise your natural ability to heal & self-regulate, & to better understand triggers & lifestyle factors, in your daily physical, mental & emotional health.  Whilst you may not yet be experiencing negative health effects, you may also want to prevent the likelihood of developing an illness, especially where there is a history of illness within the family.

Listening to each patient’s needs, and pacing treatments closely to your individual circumstances, The Well Body clinics aim to help you regain & maintain a better natural balance of essential health & wellbeing.  Great care is taken to create your own personalised Well Body Preventative treatment plan.    This works by modelling a detailed assessment based on your individual system, using diagnostic tongue observation, pulse palpation and gentle abdominal pressure, blending Chinese and Japanese Acupuncture and Traditional medicine techniques.  In addition to a physical assessment and discussion of body type, and the stresses your body may be dealing with right now, it also considers possible chronic or longer term health weaknesses based on your personalised consultation, with possible symptoms to address or watch out for through a tailor-made individual health assessment. Treatments also seek to help you develop a better understanding of  the different aspects of your full self – energetic body, physical body, emotional body, & spiritual body.  Using a rich blend of Western evidence-based medicine, Chinese medical theory, Western structural & Oriental energetic diagnostics, treatments help support you if one or several of these internal ‘body systems’ are out of balance, & to help you realign yourself & your life in positive ways.

The point of Acupuncture: Nourishing health

Acupuncture works to help maintain your body’s equilibrium.  Acupuncture uses the very gentle insertion of ultra fine sterile needles at specific active points on the body, to regulate the flow of qi, your body’s vital energy system.  The closest western analogy might be to discuss this in terms of the body’s fascia, and a complex system of neural pathways, and hormonal response, governed by the nervous system.  When this is out of balance, we present with signs and symptoms, to show that our system is out of equilibrium or homeostatic balance.   Acupuncture works to rebalance this physiological flow within the body and focuses on all aspects of wellbeing: physical, mental and emotional.

For many lifestyle and environmental reasons, ‘qi’ or the body’s neural responses, can become disturbed, depleted or blocked, which can result in symptoms of pain and illness or dis-ease.  Traditional acupuncture is increasingly recognised as an effective therapy to help restore balance and equilibrium.

Treatment is aimed at the root cause of your condition as well as your main symptoms.  This approach can lead to a more permanent resolution of your problem, as well as addressing other underlying problems alongside.

Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world, with a growing evidence base of robust medical research to support its use.  In the UK, more and more people are finding out what acupuncture can do to help them.  To learn more about what Traditional Acupuncture can do for you, please call or email Tamsin to discuss in confidence.
